The bright green algae reactor of the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB was a showstopper promoting algal biotechnology at ACHEMA 2012.
Algae use CO2 as a carbon source thus keeping the greenhouse gas out of the atmosphere.
They produce all sorts of valuable and active ingredients, biopolymers and are also discussed as fuel producers. All that without any use of farmland and with a much higher productivity than agricultural crops - so what's not to love about these sustainable guys?
